Coastal erosion in Marawila, two houses washed away

Two houses were washed away and 57 houses in risk in Mudukattuwa, Marawila, Puttalam district Disaster Management Coordinator Brig. Manoj Mudannayake said.

He said that the risk is growing rapidly with the present weather conditions and rising sea levels.

Last year 55 houses were fully and partially washed away displacing hundreds who are still in temporary shelters.

The Coast Conservation Department has made arrangements to put up coastal barriers but already two houses have been washed away.
